CTU's Mission & History
Colorado Technical University’s mission is to provide industry-relevant higher education to a diverse student population through innovative technology and experienced faculty, enabling the pursuit of personal and professional goals.
Our Story
Founded In Colorado
In 1965, Colorado Technical University was founded in Colorado Springs, where the main campus remains embedded in a vibrant and growing community. As the needs of a dynamic professional industrial complex expanded, the University evolved from a technical training school to a respected university with graduate-level programs in many of today’s most technologically demanding fields.
In 1995, we introduced our online school and took our commitment to educating career-focused adults into homes coast to coast and continent to continent. Our online school reaches far and wide—from U.S. military personnel stationed at bases overseas to students across the globe aspiring to enrich their education. We are proud to provide effective, award winning, online and virtual learning options for our students. At CTU, we continue to embrace new technology and use it in innovative ways to enhance your learning experience. We offer you the advantage of connectivity, interactivity, and freedom of choice. From multiple classroom delivery options and mobile access to your coursework to social networking, you can engage in a true university experience whether you study on campus, online or a combination of both.
Commitment To The Military
It all started with an Air Force Lt Colonel who wanted to help U.S. Veterans transition back to civilian life more easily through education. Lt Col Robert (Bob) Turkisher was a flight engineer. He was also our founder and first president…the first to set us on our course. Turkisher reached out to his friend Air Force Colonel Richard Davis, from the Air Force Academy, who was a pilot and then transitioned to the Human Resources (HR) career field. Turkisher hired him as his right hand and the Human Resources Director, so he could concentrate on the school’s programs and accreditation. CTU is a Military-centric school and has awarded millions in scholarships to active duty service members, veterans, and their families since 2008. Serving those who have risked their lives for our country is embedded in our past, present and future.
